Countless memorable moments that made me think, that made me almost tremble, afraid, this book over all is depressing! Yes as the name suggests, it is extremely depressing, but it makes points, some valid, some I don't agree with. The study of the characters is ridiculously deep.

The sit 4. The situations and the descriptions are utterly breath taking. There are passages in this book that i read and re-read again and again and there are some that I am planning to re-visit and enjoy some splendid moments of realistic fiction. If you are okay with deep and depressing stuff, if you are okay with more questions and less answers.

This one is a must read! View all 6 comments. Nov 02, Salman Tariq rated it really liked it. View 1 comment. Feb 17, Muhammad Ahmed Siddiqui rated it it was amazing Recommends it for: Urdu lovers. This book itself doesn't have a particular centralized plot rather than that it revolves around the evolution of characters.

Many that I reread and won't forget. This book is depressing as much as it can get but it also reveals true characteristic of being human and the true bitterness of life. The characters are versatile and beautifully created. The village scenes, the people, the conversations all are superbly painted on the canvas by the author. If you are interested in subcontinent literature, if you want to read something that is more about the people than the journey itself then this book is a must read.

Apr 29, Rural Soul rated it really liked it. I really got no idea that what's it all about? But whatever it is, it's Sad. We are sad generations.

We were Peasants, We are labor now and we will someone else in coming years but one thing will be sure and is sure that we'll be sad and we won't be able to do anything. Aug 23, Beenish Khan rated it liked it. It started very well, the details of every scene were very good and you can feel to be a part of it.

At times it reminded of Hemingway's Farewell to arms and For whom the bell tolls. But, I could never really know the inner lives and struggles of the characters. Some points of the story were not clear, like why Naeem left Azra after their initial meeting etc.

Characters weren't explored completely, eg. I really wanted to know more about Azra. It's certainly one of the better Urdu novels, but I wa It started very well, the details of every scene were very good and you can feel to be a part of it.

It's certainly one of the better Urdu novels, but I wanted a bit more. Jan 02, Naveed Nawaz rated it really liked it. One of the classics of the golden era of Urdu Literature.

At times the leap was a little too much and a little too often for me though. But you can expect that when the story spans over almost 40 years. The best thing about the novel is how the writer paints the picture of the pre-partition Indian Subcontinent.

The rural and the urban.

Takes you back to time and makes you wanna live those times. You actually feel like you wanna walk through the fields of Roshan Pur and experience one Beautiful. You actually feel like you wanna walk through the fields of Roshan Pur and experience one of Roshan Mahal's famous parties. All in all, a very good read. Jan 30, Samreen rated it really liked it Shelves: This novel can surely b a pride of Urdu literature.

There is something I would surely say that the pre partition era and all scenarios portrayed bitterly but in such a beautiful sense, the character of naeem and other characters psyche are awesomely displayed. Mar 16, Farooq Zafar rated it it was amazing.

Apr 07, Naina Latif rated it it was amazing. Kre sjda wafa b paon mein Chal "insha" apne gaon mein.! Sep 19, Hamza Ali rated it liked it. A bundle full of small tragedies in a single man story, you will need a large gut and patience to read this book because there is too much scene creation and depression created in every aspect of this book.

Udaas naslein did'nt have a single story or this book is not focused on any one part instead this is full of gloom and despair. Mar 26, Sameera rated it really liked it. One of the best classics i have read so far in English and Udru Literature combinedly.

Very absolute depiction of that era after Indian rebellion of that even in some scenes it was down to the minor details of how Hindu, Muslim were living together in that era, how was their daily life, having no thought of getting a separate land.

Based mostly in Delhi and Roshan Pur village , udaas naslein is true to its catchy title showing dominance and luxury of feudal system of that historical period and simple and struggling lives of farmers who were the major community of undivided India.
