Luis Suárez was a young boy already in love with football by the time his family moved from the countryside to Uruguay's capital, Montevideo. The guile and.

He's the best striker in world football today - but also the most controversial. Banned three times for biting opponents - including the shameful episode with Italy's Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup in Brazil - Luis Suarez has also been embroiled in a race row with Manchester United's Patrice Evra and been public enemy number one at the World Cup after handballing on the line in Uruguay's quarter-final against Ghana. Yet on the field he has brought only goals galore and glory to every team he has played for. At 18 he was in the first eleven at Uruguay's top club Nacional and played a major role in their league triumph. Then he captained Ajax Amsterdam to Dutch Cup glory in Holland and transformed Liverpool into a titlechasing team in Almost miraculously, Suarez then overcame an ankle injury operation to kill off England with two wonderful goals in the World Cup. It was the prospect of such remarkable feats that encouraged Spanish giants Barcelona to offer a mind-boggling? Yet what exactly makes this brilliant, but flawed, man tick? What demons lie behind his 'cannibal' acts, his cheating and his frequent bust-ups with fellow pros, and the clubs and managers who fall over themselves to employ him? Just why is Suarez incapable of steering clear from controversy? In this first-ever biography on the Uruguayan superstar, renowned footballing biographer Frank Worrall reveals the good, the bad and the downright ugly traits that define Suarez the footballer and Suarez the man. Here is the inside story of how a troubled boy from a poverty-stricken neighbourhood became the most coveted striker in world football today.

He was nine and he felt it deeply. In the space of two years his surroundings, his routine, his friends, his school and his family as he knew them had all changed. And, perhaps because of that, he rebelled against the reality that came crashing around him without offering him a choice in the matter.

My parents had split up and there was all the problem of us being a family that never had the possibility of choosing anything. I was never able to tell my mother or father, 'I want these trainers', and have them download me those trainers.

It was the pure reality. No to the new city. No to a new life. No to the fact that his parents' marriage was on the rocks. No to the new routines, the grass that you can't play barefoot on, to the fact that you had to live behind closed doors. And he said no to his studies and to football too, because that was his way of rebelling.

I didn't like to train. I only liked playing the games and that way it was going to be very difficult for me to achieve something. I got really angry.

I was a rebel and that worked against me. He was in Nacional's seventh team. He and 25 others. The following year three or four wouldn't make the cut and Luis would be one of them.

Wilson went to Luis, took him aside and said, very seriously: "It's the last chance you're getting. Try to take it. Don't let me down. And he thought: "I'm 14 years old and I can't know now if I'm going to be a professional footballer. But I have to try to go as far as possible. I have to try. I have to think about my family, my brothers, and that if I go far I'll be able to help them … I have to get on with it.

She changed him for ever. But these are things that you think about now when you're a father and wonder: how are you going to explain to your child what you did at school or that you didn't want to study? You think about it and realise that you were making decisions as a rebellious adolescent that were bad.

He had given him freedom. She had given him security. Please Note: Deliveries of items with this status cannot be tracked.

Whether you like him as a player or not, this will give you a good glimpse of how Luis came to be. There was not much of an excitement level to the book. Overall, I was left with a pretty bland feeling after I finished it.

One read through is good enough. Kindle Edition Verified download. Good read. You get a feeling for what goes on inside Luis head. Without the intensity, you won't get the player.

I think if Luis is ever in a situation where he must win but does not look like he will, his frustration will boil over and another biting incident will occur. It is great and you get to know what is happening on the other side. Being a soccer player is not easy and when Luis Suarez is know as the biter it can't be a good thing. And his story reminds us that they are human and give us empathy. One person found this helpful. Really enjoyed the book. Phenomenal read that places the reader in Lucho's shoes.

Through the book we understand his roots, ambition, and intentions. Definitely adds another dimension to a figure that is often cast in a bad light. The book reads like a novel, or like a modern day "telenovela. Many who follow European soccer have probably asked themselves, "Why does Luis Suarez behave the way he does?

If you only know the headlines about Suarez, it's easy to write him off as yet another spoiled bad-boy athlete whose behavior is tolerated because of his talent. But if you look just a little bit deeper, it's obvious that isn't the whole story. This is a person who has overcome obstacle after obstacle to get where he is today, not just in terms of his career, but also in his personal life.
