Then Essential Korean Grammar offers exactly what you need to finally understand and express which grammar option is best. Having a solid understanding of grammar is essential to effectively learn Korean. Essential Korean Grammar gives you excellent examples that lay out the best grammar options for communicating, and when to use each option. The grammar items are cleverly rated so you can determine what's most useful for you to study, based on your Korean knowledge level and your plans. There is a star rating system, from 5 stars "critical"; with these under your belt you can communicate almost everything you need to say to 1 star don't worry about this unless there's some reason you need to know itfor example, the TOPIK exam. Essential Korean Grammar is a toolbox to help you form correct and natural-sounding sentences, and determine which grammar you need for reading or writing Korean. It details: How to combine grammar points with each type of word.

The examples are useful the further you go in. This book will not teach you Hangul the way you need so use something else for that its section, about 3 pages, on Hangul is more an overview and leans more toward romanization which I would not recommend as a super beginner myself and doesn't even go over sound changes which we really need.

I'll probably update this review sometime later on, but so far I give it a three because I consider that a neutral opinion--its not bad, but it doesn't start out good either.

My opinion is likely to change the farther in I go, especially since I skipped the exercises. I lived in Korea for three years and mostly self studied. This was one of my absolute favorite books for studying Korean.

While not all of the vocabulary words are instantly useful, I benefited from all of the exposure. It's not something to 'fly' through; I spent time memorizing the vocabulary and practicing the grammar of each chapter before moving on to the next. If you're truly interested in learning Korean, I think you will do well to download this book. Overall, I believe it will be helpful in getting you started. One minor fault I noticed was the lack of a one page "alphabet" showing all the letters and their sounds.

It would make an easy reference as well as a good place to begin learning the sounds. This is covered, but not in a one page easy to find resource. Since I already know the Korean alphabet it doesn't bother me so much, I just think it would be helpful for someone who didn't have that knowledge. Other than that one complaint, I think it's an excellent grammar that brings the student me along at a comfortable pace with detailed instructions along the way.

As far as correct pronunciations are concerned, I have the advantage of being married to a Korean who helps me get the sounds just right. For someone who doesn't speak with Koreans regularly, there may be some mis-pronouncing occasionally, but probably nothing tragic.

Do what I did. Take advantage of the "Look inside this book" and read some of the pages. You can get a really good sense of the book by doing this. It's what made me decide to download it.

Now I just have to do my part and study and practice. See all 26 reviews. site Giveaway allows you to run promotional giveaways in order to create buzz, reward your audience, and attract new followers and customers.
